This scent wasn't special until it was gone. The men would gather around the fire, gambling tables, leaned into darker corners with a drink rimmed with an orange in one hand and smoky tobacco pipe in another. The most confident of women in bold dresses and perfect lips would swirl between them leaving their perfume of sweet vanilla, plum and black currant. Lingering in the air were hints of palo santo, sage, saffron and just enough cherry to intoxicate.
Maybe lost but never gone.
